Love Hiroshima 2000 Gospel Concert
The climax of Love Hiroshima 2000 was a concert featuring the gospel choir from Iwakuni Marine Base. It had been advertised by 50 posters and about 6000 flyers, the 250-seat hall had been rented, and all other prep was in place... we thought. But God was going to get all the glory for this one, with no chance for man to take any credit. After the hall officials shortened our setup time to a tight squeeze, the choir's bus got lost and arrived two hours late - only 5 minutes before showtime! On top of that, most of the sound system flaked out - it's a miracle we had a concert at all! But although we started late, confusion abounded, and we had only small stage monitors serving as the main speakers, still the packed house of about 280 people (we even had to turn some away!) had a great time. Much of the time they were on their feet and clapping to the music. And, according to the 150 or so survey forms returned, they were touched by the music, the joy the singers conveyed, and the three testimonies... and they want more - about 100 people put their address on the surveys and asked to be informed of future events!
The choir The audience
Gospel music is currently enjoying a lot of popularity in Japan and we would be happy to talk with Gospel Choir groups that might consider coming to Japan to minister through music and testimony. Sending the church choir to Japan for a short term missions trip might be a great way to build a vision for world missions in your church.
